Just like the recently introduced Honda RC213V-S, KTM is also said to be finalizing plans for a production, track-only Superbike. Based on the RC16, the MotoGP inspired bike will feature pneumatic valves and a seamless gearbox however it will not replace the RC8. According to KTM CEO Stefan Pierer, road bikes have become too powerful and its not wise for OEM’s to manufacture massively powerful superbikes in a class that is said to be diminishing. Well that could spell disaster for sport bike lovers, however those on the other side of the fence say that due to the RC8’s lack of success, KTM would want to take another approach to the fiercely contested 1000cc class.
At €140 000 the new KTM racer will also be cheaper than the RCV but when could we expect it to go on sale? Well don’t hold your breath because 2017 is the current goal.
